Alachua County ZIP Coverage
The Alachua County ZIP code directory has three different kinds of entries. Standard codes cover delivery routes and parcels. Other codes serve post-office boxes. Gainesville also has unique institutional codes for the University of Florida and UF Health. Mixing those types can turn a sensible search into a false claim about population or residence.
The table groups the verified postal areas by practical search use. It also flags the county-line crossings that matter most. A full street address should still be checked with the USPS ZIP Code Lookup, because postal assignments change and simplified maps can omit box-only codes.
| ZIP | Areas covered | Post office or institution | Directory note |
|---|---|---|---|
| 32601, 32603 | Central and UF-adjacent Gainesville | Gainesville | Standard delivery |
| 32605, 32606, 32607 | West and northwest Gainesville | Gainesville | Standard delivery toward the urban fringe |
| 32608, 32609 | Southwest and northeast Gainesville corridors | Gainesville | Includes city and unincorporated territory |
| 32641, 32653 | East and north Gainesville fringes | Gainesville | Municipal limits require a map check |
| 32602, 32604, 32613, 32614, 32627 | Gainesville box mail | Gainesville | Do not infer a residential parcel |
| 32610, 32611, 32612 | UF Health and University of Florida mail | Institutional | Unique codes, not neighborhoods |
| 32615, 32631, 32654, 32658, 32662, 32694 | Alachua, Earleton, Island Grove, La Crosse, Lochloosa, Waldo | Named local post offices | Municipal and rural delivery areas |
| 32618, 32622, 32640, 32643, 32666, 32667, 32669 | Archer, Brooker, Hawthorne, High Springs, Melrose, Micanopy, Newberry | Named local post offices | Each crosses a county line |
County sources also show 32635, 32636 and 32655 as nonstandard Gainesville entries. Marginal responses such as 32665 and 32696 should be verified address by address because those postal areas are chiefly outside Alachua County.
Note: A ZIP-wide owner list omits renters, box holders, and people whose names do not appear on a parcel.
Reading Gainesville ZIP Codes
Gainesville addresses use NW, NE, SW and SE quadrants around Main Street and University Avenue. The prefix and road type are part of the address. NW 8th Avenue and NE 8th Avenue are different, just as an Avenue differs from a Street or Terrace with the same number.
That grid explains why a ZIP code alone is a coarse filter. Archer Road, Newberry Road, Waldo Road and Hawthorne Road pass through areas with different local jurisdiction and parcel context. Search the full address, then compare the USPS result with county GIS. Rural land may be easier to match through parcel ID or a section-township-range legal description than through its current mail label.
The institutional codes are a notable Alachua County quirk. The codes 32610 through 32612 serve UF Health and the University of Florida. They may look like compact neighborhoods in an alphabetical list, yet they do not work as ordinary resident areas.
Find Alachua Residents by ZIP
Start with an official postal check, then move from delivery geography to local records. The Property Appraiser's Advanced Property Search can filter taxable parcels by ZIP. It returns owners and parcel facts, not everyone receiving mail in the area. The county map adds municipal boundaries and other local layers.
- Enter the complete street address in the USPS verifier and copy the standardized city and ZIP.
- Open Alachua County Map Genius and locate the address or parcel. Check the county and municipal boundary.
- Use the ACPA Advanced Property Search ZIP criterion. Narrow a broad result by city code, subdivision, area, or property use.
- Open each relevant parcel card and distinguish its situs, the property's physical location, from the owner's tax-mailing address.
- Once the target area is small, use the Alachua County street directory for address-level work.
Downloads are available only when an ACPA advanced result contains 400 parcels or fewer. That cap is useful: it forces a countywide or Gainesville-wide query into a more defensible segment before names are copied or compared.
Alachua ZIP Search Fields
The advanced parcel search combines postal geography with appraisal and land fields. One ZIP code can span several neighborhoods, so an added city, subdivision, or area criterion often makes the result more useful. Numeric fields use From and To controls; a lone From value means equality.
| Field | Control | How it helps | Limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| ZIP Code | Criterion | Filters parcels by coded situs ZIP | Not a list of all residents |
| City Code | Criterion | Narrows appraisal geography | Not the same as postal city |
| Subdivision | Selection | Restricts to a filed subdivision | Distinct from appraiser Area |
| Area/Neighborhood | Selection | Focuses an appraisal grouping | Not a USPS boundary |
| Property Use Code | Selection | Separates broad parcel types | Does not prove occupancy |
| Sort By | Output setting | Organizes the parcel result | Export stops above 400 matches |
A result should be dated when saved. Parcel data, tax-mail addresses, and postal assignments can change on different schedules. County GIS uses Property Appraiser parcels and E-911 addressing, giving the search a second local frame.
Alachua ZIP Boundaries and Limits
A Gainesville postal city does not prove that Gainesville supplies the local service or holds the permit record. The standard areas 32608, 32641 and 32653 include unincorporated land. Seven other named postal areas explicitly cross the Alachua County boundary: 32618, 32622, 32640, 32643, 32666, 32667 and 32669.
Use USPS to settle the delivery label and Map Genius to settle jurisdiction. The county viewer has more than 60 layers, including parcels, municipal boundaries, zoning, future land use, wetlands, flood zones, political districts and water-management districts. Those layers explain the place without changing what the postal code means.
- ZIP code
- A USPS delivery area. It is not a city, county, or parcel boundary.
- ZIP+4
- An added four digits that refine delivery to a smaller route, building, or group of boxes.
- PO-box ZIP
- A code used for post-office boxes, with no sound basis for a residential parcel count.
- Unique ZIP
- A code assigned to a high-volume institution, such as UF or UF Health.
- Carrier route
- A mail-delivery path within a ZIP, not a government district.
ZIP-Keyed Alachua Public Rolls
Property records are the cleanest official ZIP filter, but they are not the only route. Florida's Sunbiz system supports business searches by ZIP Code and Street Address. An entity result may show its document number, status, registered agent, filing address, and officer or manager names. That evidence links a person to a public filing, not necessarily to a home.
The Supervisor of Elections offers personal registration verification through the Florida Voter Information Lookup. Broader voter data requires a public-record request rather than an anonymous ZIP browse. Exempt fields include Social Security and driver-license numbers, registration-source data, preregistrant information, and copyable signatures. Voting history shows participation, never ballot choices.
Alachua County Beyond Gainesville
Alachua County covers 875.64 square miles. Its 2020 Census population was 278,468, and the July 2025 estimate was 290,028. Those county totals describe Gainesville, small municipalities, university-linked households, and wide rural districts together. They should not be projected onto a person or treated as a count for one postal area.
Alachua, Archer, Hawthorne, High Springs, Micanopy, Newberry and Waldo maintain their own municipal records. A permit or code search that is silent in Gainesville may simply belong with another city or Alachua County Growth Management. That is why the ZIP code directory is best used as a first cut, followed by a boundary check.
Note: Census ZCTAs approximate postal geography for statistics; USPS ZIPs are live delivery constructs and may not share the same edges.
Confirming Alachua Postal Identity
Modern mail labels can fail when research moves back through old deeds and directories. Recorded instruments may identify land by subdivision lot and block, metes and bounds, or section-township-range with no useful street number. Reverse directories add the street and listed occupant for a publication year, while historic maps help reconcile later changes.
Carry the parcel ID and legal description across systems when an old or rural address is unclear. Growth Management can search permits and applications by address, applicant or owner, parcel, permit number, or section-township-range. County GIS handles address and map questions through its office, phone, or email when the web viewer does not resolve a conflict.
The county research found no authoritative date for a wholesale Gainesville street renumbering or a local ZIP split. Changes should therefore be checked one address at a time against period plats, Sanborn maps, directory street guides, USPS, and present county geography.
For records held by a city, first determine whether the address was inside that municipality on the date in question. Gainesville's guidance sends matters beyond its limits to Alachua County, and a postal city name cannot replace that test. Permit and code records may sit with Gainesville, another incorporated city, or County Growth Management even though every envelope uses a familiar nearby place name. The same caution applies near the county edge, where a standard postal area serves land in more than one county. A focused request should name the parcel, full address, record type, and date span so the custodian can locate an existing file without being asked to create a new ZIP-wide roster.
The official USPS lookup supplies the postal starting point for an Alachua County address.
